The Mill at Castlemaine is a wonderful collection of boutique & artisan food makers and other shops, such as art, furniture, craft beer and wine. Long Paddock Cheese is based here, where the public can buy wonderful cheeses made right here onsite by their French cheesemakers! I tasted then bought a selection of their cheeses. 100% recommended. Couldn’t fit in any buttermilk, yoghurt or Crème Fraîche!, which they also sell.
We knew their cheese was delicious from the Bastille Day faire at the Vic Market. But their range is so much bigger.
This is my new favourite place in the world. We’d recently dined at a restaurant in regional Victoria. After our meal the cheese platter arrived with your typical soft, hard and blue. On this occasion the hard was a Long Paddock Banksia cheese. And it was seriously good. So good in fact we went for a drive to Castlemaine to see their digs and it’s well recommended. We ended up purchasing a Banksia Reserve plus a Ironbark and a Silver Wattle ultra soft cheese. Plenty to sample at their store and their staff and eager to talk and educate about their cheese and their story. Totally recommend it and support our talented cheesemakers.
